Come on Spring!!!

I am ready for Spring to get here.  I was out looking at the yard and I have a lot to do in my flower garden.  It will be nice when I can finally get out there and do something.  The weather has been teasing us lately.  It will be nice and up in the 40s-50s and all the snow will melt and the next thing we know, it is snowing again!

Jamie and I have doing well on our Project 365 blog.  The pictures have been interesting.  Some of them get pretty boring when you cannot go outside to do stuff.  that is another reason I am antsy about spring coming.  I can only take so many pictures of my dogs...

Work has been a little hectic lately.  It seems like it has been a little more stressful than usual.  We almost got stuck at work once during a blizzard.  Not fun!  Nobody wants to be stuck at a hospital...even the staff!

I've decided to give up fast food for lent.  I try to give up something that will make my life/health better.  The first night, I was working with Stacey and she ordered Tomato Cheese Bread from Romas.  That is my weakness and I forgot about Lent until we had already ordered.  Oops!  I've been better since then, but it is still a work in progress.

Pictures, pictures, pictures...

Anyone who knows me knows that I love to take pictures...and I take a lot of them. Of everything and anything because you never know what will look really good. Well, I took some pictures of our fire pit, my favorite tree in the yard (which is actually a combination of like four trees), my lilacs (white and sensation) and the garden (including our fake owl.)

The tree at sunset and the fire. We put copper in the fire and it made it turn green. I couldn't get a good picture of that though. :(

Okay, that is all the pics that I have for today. I love the rhubarb, asparagus and strawberries in the garden. We had to re-plant them all, which means we might not get any yield this summer. On to more planting...tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, watermelon, carrots, radishes, onions...I think that is all. Our garden is about 1/4 acre, so we usually have lots of room for things. You can see in some of the garden pics that we are surrounded by fields, and I think that helps our crops grow. :)

Yeah for Spring!!

I am so happy to be having warmer weather. It is so exciting to see everything growing. Mom and I planted beans and peas in the garden this week. I just cannot wait to get everything planted. (There is still a threat of frost for next week) Hopefully, our crop will be better than it was last year. It was just too wet last year and things didn't grow well...except for the weeds, of course. They grew just fine. Here is a picture of my flower garden. I love all the tulips and daffodils.

I had my first of three chemo classes today. When I am done, I will be certified by the Oncological Nursing Society to administer IV chemotherapy. Going to the class was kinda difficult because I'm used to being awake at night and sleeping during the day and now I have to take a class that starts when I normally am going to sleep. The class went okay, but I was super tired! It's a lot of information and I'm sure I'll grasp it eventually, it just seems like I am drowning in a wealth of oncological knowledge right now. (Good thing I have a manual for review!!)

The classes are on Friday for the next two Fridays. It's good because then I only have to work two days a week and then the class. Boy am I glad that it is getting warmer! Yeah for Spring and Flowers!!

I Want Spring!!!

This week has been a little crazy at work. I have worked Tues and Wed night and have to work Fri, Sat, and Sun. I don't really want to go in the next three nights because the first two nights were terrible. It started off with me writing down my patient's information and having a family member screaming at me because the call light had not been answered. I didn't know anything about it, but he felt the need to vent. We have this "wonderful" new system call Vocera and how it is "supposed" to work is that the call lights are supposed to go the nurse's aide and if they don't answer it, it goes to the nurse. Then if the nurse doesn't answer it, it goes to another nurse and the call system. Well, it doesn't always work that way. Several times, I have received a notice for the call light after I have already been in the room for about five minutes, turned the call light off, and returned to the desk. It's "real" efficient.

On Wednesday, I had another patient who was breathing fast and had a rapid heart rate. I called the doctor and she gave me an order for some medicine (a commonly used med) to slow her heart rate. So, I go to our pyxis (a big stupid machine that we pull our meds from) and we are supposed to be able to pull emergency meds (like this one) from there and send the order down later. So, I try to override this med (which starts with an "m") and it's not there. I cannot pull it quickly. I call pharmacy and they tell me in order for them to put it in so I can pull it, I have to send an order down. I reply with "you mean I can pull Miralax in an emergency but cannot pull this drug." I was so mad. Apparently to them, being constipated is considered an emergency but your high heart rate/blood pressure is not. Hmmm...priorities.

I want Spring to come. I'm tired of winter. We're supposedly supposed to get more snow this coming up week. What a wonderful Spring Break it is going to be for my nieces and nephews. I did have some flowers in my garden earlier in the week and I need to do some work there...it just has to get warm enough! Here is a pic I took of crocuses in my flower garden. I just get so excited for flowers! I need some warmth...and maybe a vacation!
